Cruelty Free & Halal Cosmetic Companies

Recently, I have been really looking into consumerism. The idea that we are merely consumers, customers for someone to sell things to. We are also taught in basic economics that without this, we lack a stable and wealthy economy. Without purchasers for goods, we have no need for companies that produce goods, limiting jobs, and as we know, if we lack jobs, we lack money, and in turn cannot purchase goods. To be honest, this has started to affect the way I look at products and marketing.

For example: "Better Than Sex" Mascara By Too Faced Cosmetics...I am so happy to tell you that this company is not only cruelty free, but is not an Israel affiliated company, and may be halal (check ingredients, just to make sure..."Cruelty Free" does not always mean halal, but Im no chemist) Now, look at the name. "Better Than Sex" Call me crazy, but if a mascara was in fact better than sex, we'd have a lot of abstinent, wide eyed, mascara'd ladies running around. I mean really? Sex? haha Now I'm a proper Muslim lady so the more I say sex, the more uncomfortable I feel writing this blog post. The name is catchy and a bit naughty, so you're attracted and curious. Your thinking, "Whow, this must be the most amazing mascara ever!" So, you go to your local Sephora or ULTA and grab a $23.00 bottle of black goo to wipe on your eyelashes, hoping it will make you feel beautiful, sexy, amazing. In my opinion...it's a pretty darn good bottle of black goo, but that's not the point. The name grabs you, make you feel like you have to buy it. So we hardworking ladies ignore the price tag, forget our credit card bill, and buy it! The beauty of advertising in a world of poverty, starvation and war.

Im sorry, but I had to throw that last bit in there because that is exactly why I've started to really examine the way I buy, and most importantly, the companies I buy from.

As a human of compassion I feel the need to address Palestine. Im not going to say too much, but Israel is a thriving country..or "state"...(we won't discuss this haha...do your research) With alliances to America, the UK and now Egypt (from my knowledge) And now for some "odd" reason, they feel the need to terrorize the Palestinians for everything they have left. Why?!?!

If you take a look at your everyday beverage, snack or even deodorant, you may see that they come from Israeli owned companies, or Israel affiliated companies. I mean if you live in America, good luck boycotting because you may starve. (over exaggerating...) One other thing you may be unaware of, is that most all cosmetic companies owned by Israel also test on animals.

Now, I feel the need to point out that I am not a vegetarian, although I used to be for about two years. I love animals. I grew up with dogs and cats in my home, and feel that animals should be treated with respect. Animals in many cases are helpless against humans. We kill them for food, clothing and to make ourselves feel beautiful. The last thing is what I have a problem with. As a Muslim I must point out that we do NOT believe in the inhumane torture of animals. This includes hunting for sport, striking and or starving an animal.

It is related from Abu Umama that the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, said, "Whoever is merciful even to a sparrow, Allah will be merciful to him on the Day of Judgment." It is also stated in the Quran “Seest thou not that it is Allah Whose praise all beings in the heavens and on earth do celebrate, and the birds (of the air) with wings outspread? Each one knows its own (mode of) prayer and praise, and Allah knows well all that they do.” (Quran 24:41) This shows that animals pray, as we pray. They are here to serve a purpose, and in many ways science has shown this to be true.

Now, if it is haram to harm an animal, and testing products on animals harm them, in most cases it kills them, as they live a life of torture and confinement...than isn't it haram to consume these animal killing products? In retrospect it probably is. (I'm not a Sheik, so Im just trying to save my butt in the "probably") So I am taking a stand, and I want you to stand with me! I am not rich, and sometimes even struggle to buy nice cosmetic items, so I will not be throwing away my current...I hate to say "Palestinian murdering, animal harming" cosmetics, but I will be making a conscious effort to no longer support any cosmetic company that test on animals or supports Israel. Because of this AWESOME decision I've made to not help myself, but inshAllah promote peace and love for humans and animals alike, I wanted to put together a list of companies that not only love people, but animal too. I worked hard to put this together so if you see any mistakes, please let me know. Also don't forget to share this list on your social networking sites.

If your going to be a consumer...if your going to wear makeup, at least feel good knowing your supporting companies that also share the same compassion and ethics as you do.

Remember, always stand up for what you believe in. We already have enough hate in this world. Be the person to inspire and make change happen!
